Decagon is seeking an experienced software engineer to join the AI Platform team and help build the company's AI-native developer platform. This role sits at the intersection of distributed systems, developer tooling, and applied AI, focusing on experimenting with new agentic workflows and transforming promising ideas into dependable systems for the engineering organization. The position is highly product-oriented, requiring close collaboration with engineers to identify automation opportunities and ownership of solutions from architecture through production operation.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate the core platform for agent-driven software development.
- Lead platform projects from conception through technical design, implementation, rollout, and evolution.
- Translate successful experiments into secure, reusable abstractions for engineering teams.
- Partner with engineers to understand bottlenecks, prototype solutions, and drive adoption.
- Enhance software development speed and quality through improved agent tooling, testing, review, and automation.
- Ensure the reliability, observability, security, performance, and cost-effectiveness of built systems.
- Contribute to defining how engineers and agents build and operate production software.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience building production software, particularly in backend, infrastructure, platform, or developer tooling.
- Strong programming skills in Python, TypeScript, or another systems-oriented language.
- Experience designing and operating APIs, services, or platforms for other engineers.
- Understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, containers, and production reliability.
- Proven ability to take technically complex projects from ambiguous problems to widely adopted production systems.
- Commitment to developer experience and simplifying complex infrastructure.
- Ability to move quickly while maintaining high standards for correctness, security, and operational quality.
- Clear communication skills and enjoyment of working directly with end-users.
