About the job
Distyl AI is an applied AI technology company that partners with ambitious institutions to rearchitect critical operations for the frontier of AI. We research and deploy technologies that power AI-native operations, spanning research into self-constructing systems, the development of reliable AI system execution, and products that transform mission-critical workflows. We are seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to own how Distyl engineers build, test, secure, and release software across multiple cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and diverse customer constraints. This hands-on role involves building shared delivery systems and coding-agent workflows to ensure reliable releases, actionable failure insights, and increased engineer productivity, ultimately shaping how all Distyl engineers ship code.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction and priorities for build, test, release, and coding-agent infrastructure, choosing tools and standards with engineering partners.
- Standardize repository conventions and reusable build/test workflows, ensuring reproducible and efficient builds through explicit dependencies, consistent tooling, and effective caching.
- Build a 'build once, promote many' system for versioned, immutable artifacts through release stages with traceability, test, and security gates.
- Equip engineers with reusable coding-agent tools for failure diagnosis, fix proposals, and routine task handling, including tests, scoped permissions, and validation.
- Implement software supply-chain security measures such as artifact signing, provenance, SBOMs, isolated build runners, scoped CI credentials, and vulnerability gates.
- Enhance developer experience by building self-service tools, documentation, and diagnostics to reduce friction and distinguish code failures from tooling issues.
- Track and improve engineering productivity metrics like build/test latency, pipeline reliability, and release lead time, using signals and feedback to reduce bottlenecks.
- Partner with Platform, Runtime, and Customer Delivery teams on integration, compatibility testing, configuration, and recovery.
- Support customer-registry distribution and offline packaging as required.
- Integrate dependency and container remediation into engineering workflows.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, developer productivity, SRE, or related infrastructure engineering roles.
- Experience enabling engineers to use coding agents through reusable tools, workflows, and guidance.
- Experience owning production build, test, and release infrastructure across services and teams.
- Hands-on experience with build systems, dependency management, reproducibility, performance diagnosis, and caching.
- Strong Python skills for backend services and automation.
- Comfort navigating unfamiliar codebases, including JavaScript frontends.
- Strong Linux fundamentals and experience building/maintaining secure container images.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes, GitOps, infrastructure as code, and cloud deployment.
- Hands-on experience implementing software supply-chain controls with demonstrated security judgment.
- Experience building developer platforms, automated remediation, or reusable agent tooling adopted by other engineers.
- Proven record of improving build/test performance, release reliability, and tooling adoption using metrics and developer feedback.
- Experience independently leading complex projects and migrations, setting technical direction, and driving adoption.
- Experience building and operating testing infrastructure in a microservices environment (preferred).
- Experience distributing release artifacts to customer registries or restricted environments, including offline packaging (preferred).
