AgentMail is building the communication infrastructure for AI agents, enabling them to communicate and operate independently across various services. We've processed hundreds of millions of emails and serve developers building ambitious agentic products. We are seeking a Founding Product Engineer to define the customer experience of AgentMail. This role involves owning products from initial customer problems to daily developer use, encompassing end-to-end development across frontend, APIs, backend services, data models, and infrastructure. You will engage directly with customers, translate their challenges into product solutions, and shape the developer experience. The role requires rapid prototyping, meticulous attention to detail in product design and interaction, and contributing to the product engineering culture.
Responsibilities
- Build products end-to-end, including frontend, APIs, backend services, data models, and infrastructure.
- Engage directly with customers through interviews, observation, and support analysis to understand their challenges.
- Translate customer problems into product requirements and define what should be built.
- Shape and improve the developer experience from signup to production deployment.
- Prototype new ideas quickly, turning customer conversations into usable features within days.
- Influence the design and interaction patterns of AgentMail products.
- Help define and establish the product engineering culture as an early member of the team.
Requirements
- Exceptional frontend engineering skills with strong product and design instincts.
- Strong backend development experience with APIs, backend systems, databases, queues, and distributed systems.
- Ability to independently translate vague problems into product solutions without detailed specifications.
- Enjoyment of customer interaction and the ability to discern underlying problems from stated requests.
- Capacity to contextualize technical decisions based on customer and business impact.
- Strong opinions and conviction about product development.
- Comfort with rapid iteration, shipping imperfect products, and learning from usage data.
- High degree of agency and initiative to identify and fix issues independently.
- Proven track record of building products that users love.
- Ability to independently manage the full product lifecycle from problem identification to shipped software and learning.
