Snorkel AI is seeking a Staff Applied AI Engineer to join their frontier AI data lab. In this role, you will research and implement state-of-the-art Generative AI and machine learning techniques to deliver impactful solutions for customers. You will work directly with clients to understand their needs, design AI solutions, and contribute to Snorkel's tooling by translating real-world challenges into reusable recipes and workflows. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy solving complex problems, bridging AI technology with business value, collaborating with customers, staying current with AI research, and standardizing solutions into internal tooling.
Responsibilities
- Partner with customers to build and deploy Gen AI and ML solutions, from scoping to deployment, aiming to deliver business value and inform tooling evolution.
- Develop and implement state-of-the-art AI systems including RAG, fine-tuning pipelines, prompt engineering, and agentic workflows.
- Create augmented datasets and evaluation workflows to ensure model reliability, transparency, and trust.
- Manage relationships with customer leadership and stakeholders to ensure successful AI project development and deployment.
- Collaborate with pre-sales and product teams to map customer needs, prioritize roadmap gaps, and guide project setup.
- Standardize solutions and contribute to internal tooling and best practices with other Applied AI Engineers.
- Educate stakeholders on quantitative capabilities, explaining the strengths and weaknesses of different AI approaches.
- Act as the voice of the customer for new AI paradigms and data science workflows, sharing feedback with product teams.
- Conduct enablement workshops to transfer knowledge to customers using Snorkel AI.
- Travel annually up to 25%.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics) or comparable experience.
- 8+ years of customer-facing experience in designing and implementing AI/ML solutions.
- Proficiency in Python, including strong software engineering fundamentals and experience with modern Python libraries for type validation, data modeling, type-safe systems, testing, packaging, API frameworks, serialization, and ML deployment orchestration.
- Expertise across the Applied AI stack, including classical ML libraries, deep learning frameworks, foundation-model ecosystems, vector/embedding tooling, data processing frameworks, RAG tooling, synthetic dataset curation, evaluation workflows, and LLM orchestration/agent authoring tools.
- Experience leading strategic, customer-facing initiatives and collaborating with business stakeholders to ensure ML solutions drive business outcomes, with a focus on teaching and enablement.
- Outstanding presentation skills for technical and executive audiences.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and balance priorities across multiple projects.
