As a Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering, you will lead a high-impact team responsible for strategic enterprise AI deployments. Your mission is to ensure consistent deployment excellence, predictable delivery, strong engineering quality, and rapid unblocking within complex enterprise environments, while maintaining your own technical credibility.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Forward Deployed Engineers, setting clear expectations and managing performance.
- Own capacity planning and staffing for engineers across multiple strategic projects, managing workload and anticipating bottlenecks.
- Manage engineering delivery for deployments, including milestones, dependencies, risk management, and stakeholder alignment.
- Implement lightweight time tracking and reporting for visibility into effort, progress, and capacity.
- Provide technical leadership, guide architecture and implementation, and resolve high-severity production issues.
- Develop scalable field engineering practices, including reusable patterns, playbooks, and standards.
- Translate customer needs into product proposals and collaborate with Product/Core Engineering to reduce one-off solutions.
- Partner with customer engineering and enterprise stakeholders to deliver outcomes and build technical trust.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems integration, DevOps, or data engineering with production responsibility.
- Proven people leadership experience, including managing, coaching, hiring, and developing engineers.
- Demonstrated success delivering complex technical projects in large enterprise environments.
- Strong technical breadth and depth in backend engineering, APIs, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and databases.
- Ability to personally drive technical workstreams and assist with debugging and implementation.
- Excellent planning, prioritization, capacity thinking, and risk management skills.
- Confident and credible customer-facing communication skills with technical teams and senior stakeholders.
- Experience building or integrating AI/LLM-powered systems (agent workflows, orchestration, evaluation, vector DBs, guardrails) is a strong plus.
