Mercor is seeking a Research Engineer to work with large enterprises, capturing their data and transforming it into high-fidelity RL environments for capability evaluations and training datasets for frontier labs. The role focuses on pushing the frontier of world-building and verifier engineering. The primary goal is to automate the process of building evaluations for real work in the economy, contributing to the development of agents that capture how best people actually work and translate that expertise directly back into agents.
Responsibilities
- Ship models for workflow extraction, classification, and grading.
- Engineer autonomous task refinement processes to distill data taste into pipelines.
- Deliver data to customers and deploy into real engagements.
- Help define the future of agentic transformation for enterprises.
- Deeply learn about enterprise intricacies by building evaluations for all aspects of work.
- Build end-to-end environments for labs & enterprises by platformizing sandbox app clones, loading real data, building prompts from real workflows, and writing verifiers.
- Systematize environment production to scale throughput while maintaining high-quality worlds and verifiers.
Requirements
- Prior experience shipping environments (OSS framework, company environments, or agentic evaluations).
- Strong full-stack engineering skills (infrastructure, app code, analytics).
- Bias to action and focus on shipping evaluations.
- Curiosity and a deep understanding of model behavior and data.
- Systems-level thinking skills to scale quality.
- Ability to sweat the details that make a simulation indistinguishable from the real thing.
