About the job
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to act as a technical anchor and subject matter expert for our Agentic Discovery team. In this role, you will be responsible for defining the architecture, core protocols, and multi-team standards that will power the next generation of agent-web interactions. As a senior technical leader, you will influence product roadmaps, mentor engineers across Cloudflare, and author technical specifications to guide execution across multiple teams. You will drive engineering excellence in areas such as edge infrastructure, data pipelines, protocol layers, and developer tooling, focusing on building resilient systems and reducing complexity for your peers.
Responsibilities
- Architect and deploy high-throughput, resilient production services for agent interaction with web properties.
- Define emerging agent protocols and integrations, authoring specifications to guide engineering efforts.
- Collaborate with Product Management, customers, and stakeholders to translate needs into technical requirements and shape roadmaps.
- Improve system health and observability, leading incident responses and rearchitecting systems to prevent failures.
- Enhance the engineering process through code reviews, mentorship, architectural governance, and hiring evaluations.
Requirements
- Experience designing scalable system architecture and setting performance metrics in a distributed environment.
- Experience writing technical specifications and leading cross-functional technical initiatives.
- Deep understanding of HTTP, APIs, proxies, caching, web security, and performance bottlenecks.
- Hands-on experience and deep conceptual understanding of AI agents, tool calling, Model Context Protocol (MCP), or agent harnesses.
- Ability to partner with product managers and customers to navigate ambiguous problem spaces and iterate on solutions.
