About the job

Black Forest Labs is seeking a Developer Experience Engineer to own the end-to-end developer experience for their generative AI platform, powering tools used by millions. This role is crucial for making the platform the choice for developers and agents alike, focusing on speed and ease of use from idea to production. You will identify and resolve friction points across the API, SDK, dashboard, and onboarding flows, working closely with product engineering, API/platform teams, research, and DevRel to ensure a seamless experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own developer experience as a product surface, addressing bottlenecks wherever they appear.
  • Partner with platform engineering on API design to incorporate the developer and agent perspective.
  • Collaborate with product engineering on developer-facing dashboard features, applying a DevExp lens.
  • Enhance the platform for agents, owning the MCP server, skills, onboarding paths, and machine-readable surfaces.
  • Design reference patterns and SDK primitives for agentic workflows.
  • Stress-test API and SDK changes against agent usability.
  • Own and manage the portfolio of developer and agent entry points, including SDKs and MCP server.
  • Partner with Growth and Product on the developer funnel, implementing DevExp fixes for identified issues.
  • Define and defend opinions on versioning, error formats, breaking changes, and other API design principles.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of software development experience, with significant time on developer-facing products (SDKs, APIs, dashboards).
  • Full-stack proficiency, comfortable with TypeScript/React/Next.js on the front-end and Python (ideally Go or Rust) on the back-end.
  • Deep understanding of API design principles, including error formats, pagination, and async job handling.
  • Fluent in the 2026 agent stack, including MCP and tool use, and understanding LLM interaction with APIs.
  • Proven experience shipping developer-facing products used by external developers.
  • A product engineering mindset, focused on shipping features.
  • Experience with media-generation or other high-latency, async, job-shaped APIs.
  • Experience with polling, webhooks, partial results, and cost management for async APIs.

Benefits

  • Reasonable travel costs covered for in-person collaboration.
