About the job
Applied Intuition is seeking a Perception Engineer for its Defense division. This is a full-stack, high-tempo role focused on advancing perception model performance across various domains including maritime, land, and air-to-surface, in both EO and IR. The team develops custom detector and classifier architectures, MLOps tooling, and industry-leading labeling software, utilizing frontier AI and large token budgets. If you have extensive experience with transformers, vision-language models, diffusion models, video model training, or deploying and optimizing production ML models, we encourage you to apply.
Responsibilities
- Develop perception models to identify and classify targets with an error rate below 1/100.
- Deploy perception models to Jetson Orin+ boards and optimize them for better-than-realtime performance.
- Build large foundation models for high-accuracy assisted data labeling.
- Develop tooling across the entire perception stack, including labeling tools and simulation.
- Collaborate with AI talent from Applied Intuition's self-driving staff.
- Scale datasets using state-of-the-art data generation techniques like simulation, diffusion, and generative AI.
- Create and maintain highly optimized models and inference software for maximum frames per second on Jetson-like hardware.
- Coordinate with hardware, sensor, tracking, autonomy, and testing teams for seamless deployment in on-site DoD testing events.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in Computer Engineering, Robotic Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent, OR 5+ years of relevant experience in simulation, machine learning, and ML infrastructure.
- Proficiency in training ML models using PyTorch on multi-machine, multi-GPU systems.
