About the job
Wayve is seeking a System Test Automation Engineer to join their Verification and Release Test Team. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and reliability of embodied intelligence for autonomous vehicles. You will be responsible for developing robust, reusable automation for system functionality tests across hardware and software boundaries, and leading root-cause investigations for failures. The position involves optimizing CI/CD test workflows, analyzing test results to uncover bugs, and reporting findings. You will independently own the design and delivery of automated verification for specific areas of the embedded software stack, and build various types of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) tests. This is a hands-on role with opportunities to grow into broader system areas, contributing to the company's mission of making autonomy universal.
Responsibilities
- Develop automation for system functionality tests at component, integration, and system levels, working across software and hardware boundaries.
- Lead root-cause investigations for failures identified during test campaigns, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Analyze test results, uncover software and hardware bugs, and report findings with clear evidence.
- Optimize Buildkite CI/CD-integrated test workflows for rapid, reliable, and repeatable execution.
- Review, create, and follow risk assessments to ensure safe and responsible testing activities.
- Independently own the design and delivery of automated verification for defined areas of the embedded software stack.
- Build open-loop and closed-loop hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) replay tests, reliability tests, and fault-injection tests.
- Automate HIL test setups and improve test infrastructure to expand coverage and traceability.
- Integrate requirements, coverage, and compliance workflows, managing test artefacts.
- Develop traceability dashboards and define KPIs and quality metrics for data-driven validation.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with system-level verification and validation in robotics, embedded software, or mechatronic systems.
- Proven track record of independently delivering test automation.
- High proficiency in Python and experience developing automation test frameworks using pytest.
- Experience with HIL testing and tooling, including interfaces like CAN, Ethernet, or GMSL.
- Understanding of open-loop and closed-loop HIL replay testing.
- Familiarity with automotive safety and process standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE, SOTIF).
- Experience integrating requirements and test-management tools (e.g., Jama, Xray).
- Proficiency in CI/CD principles and tooling (e.g., GitLab CI, Buildkite, Bazel).
- Experience developing or testing automotive software at embedded and system levels.
- Knowledge of consumer safety-rating protocols (e.g., Euro NCAP) and DCAS regulatory testing.
- Experience with automotive cybersecurity testing and standards (ISO/SAE 21434, UN R155).
- Experience with test automation dashboards, logging, and reporting infrastructure (e.g., Grafana, Jira).
- Strong self-starter with clear communication skills and ability to work effectively across teams.
- Ideally, experience contributing to improvements in test methods, safety procedures, or operational efficiency.
- Ideally, familiarity with data management and version control tools such as Git.
- Experience using agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) is valuable.
