About the job

Wayve is building the AI platform for autonomous driving, enabling vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience and adapt at scale. This role is on the Vehicle Generalization Team, focused on making Wayve's core autonomy generalize across a wide range of vehicle platforms. You will work on pre- and post-training methods to improve AI model generalization, specifically addressing how models perform with changes in perception and embodiment across different vehicles. Your work will directly impact production programs with major OEMs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and train models robust to vehicle differences using techniques like conditioning or augmentation.
  • Create benchmarks and metrics for cross-platform performance and translate results into actionable decisions.
  • Root-cause on-road issues and collaborate with other engineering teams to identify and address model failures.
  • Transition research into production in collaboration with driving core and application engineering teams.
  • Support customer programs, including some travel.
  • Mentor teammates and contribute to raising the bar for ML engineering.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience building and shipping ML systems in PyTorch and Python, including large-scale training, experiment debugging, and rigorous evaluation.
  • Strong robotics or automotive background in areas like state estimation, sensor fusion, calibration, vehicle dynamics, or controls.
  • Systems perspective to trace problems through sensors, data, models, and actuation.
  • Experience with real-world, multi-sensor driving or robot data.
  • Clear communication skills across teams and ability to own ambiguous problems from start to finish.
  • Experience with end-to-end or learned driving and planning policies, imitation learning, or reinforcement learning (nice to have).
  • Experience with platform bring-up or deployment across multiple vehicles (nice to have).
  • C++ skills and experience with on-vehicle or embedded deployment (nice to have).

Benefits

  • Salaries benchmarked against the market annually
  • Meaningful equity
  • Relocation support
  • Visa sponsorship
  • Hybrid working
  • Access to vehicle workshops and labs
  • Learning and development support
  • Comprehensive health, family, retirement, and wellbeing benefits
