About the job
Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving, pioneering an end-to-end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real-world experience. This role sits at the center of our datasets team, which owns the driving data our AI Driver learns from, covering ingestion, annotation, retrieval, and data quality. As our data grows towards exabyte scale, deciding what data to keep and where is a major lever on both model quality and cost. You will shape the data that model engineers train on across the company, defining our dataset content strategy and steering data selection based on current model engineering needs.
Responsibilities
- Build and own the ingestion-time model that scores incoming driving data and routes it.
- Work with training teams to define appropriate data distributions for models.
- Deliver storage-cost savings through practical heuristics and ML-driven filtering.
- Partner with various teams to set company-wide data policy.
- Lead and work hands-on with engineers to build data provisioning and provenance features.
Requirements
- Strong autonomous-vehicle or robotics experience with large-scale driving, sensor, or comparable data.
- Principal, hands-on ML engineer with experience building models for data scoring, selection, or filtering.
- Experience operating at petabyte scale and managing associated engineering challenges.
- Proficiency in Python and Spark, with experience in large-scale cloud data.
- Strong quantitative intuition for making practical, measurable decisions.
- Pragmatic and high-ownership, capable of setting direction across teams without direct authority.
- Experience in data selection, retention, or filtering for model training, edge/vehicle-side filtering, computer vision, high-volume IoT data, or leading small cross-functional groups.
Benefits
- Salaries benchmarked against the market annually
- Meaningful equity
- Relocation support
- Visa sponsorship
- Hybrid working
- Core hours
- Chance to work hands-on in vehicle workshops and labs
- Learning and development budgets
- Support for training, conferences, and growth
- Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, enhanced maternity and paternity leave
