About the job
Waabi is seeking experienced Software Engineers to join its AI Technical Strike Team. This team will focus on building and shipping AI tooling, agents, and workflows to maximize productivity across all departments at Waabi, from ML development to traditional software engineering and business functions. You will design, build, and integrate custom internal tools and extend third-party AI solutions, working closely with various teams to understand their needs and co-design AI-powered workflows. The role involves evaluating new AI technologies, implementing responsible AI guardrails, and driving tool adoption through documentation and support.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship custom internal tooling, agents, and workflows to support autonomy codebase, simulation environments, ML training pipelines, research workflows, and business teams.
- Integrate and extend third-party AI tools, such as coding assistants and agents, building necessary integrations and extensions.
- Evaluate new AI tools, models, and agent frameworks, conduct pilots, and provide technical recommendations for build-vs-buy decisions.
- Partner with engineers, researchers, and business teams to understand workflows, prototype solutions, and iterate based on usage.
- Build observability for AI tooling, tracking usage, adoption, cost, and quality to inform prioritization and impact assessment.
- Implement guardrails for responsible AI tooling in partnership with Security, Legal, IT, and Infrastructure.
- Drive adoption of built tools through documentation, enablement, office hours, and hands-on support.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping tools, platforms, or products.
- Deep, hands-on familiarity with current AI coding tools and agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot).
- Demonstrated experience building and shipping AI-powered products, agents, or workflows, including prompt engineering, evals, tool use, and integrating LLMs.
- Strong proficiency in Python or another common programming language.
- Comfort working across modern build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and developer infrastructure.
- Strong product instincts and judgment to identify high-leverage problems and scope pragmatic solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to operate autonomously and influence diverse teams.
- Passion for self-driving technologies and frontier AI.
