Vectara is seeking a Senior Platform Software Engineer to join their team. This role focuses on developing and managing the core infrastructure for their enterprise RAG and Agentic AI Platform, ensuring high availability, scalability, and automation. You will work on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Helm charts, design and develop platform features, and contribute to the Forward Deployed Engineering function by supporting customer applications from POCs to production. The role involves collaborating with Field Engineering teams, deploying and optimizing ML/NLP workloads, and contributing to architecture and infrastructure decisions as the platform scales. You will also be part of an on-call rotation and contribute to improving system reliability and developer experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop IaC and Helm charts for deploying and managing the core AI platform infrastructure.
- Design and develop features for the retrieval-augmented generation and agentic AI platform.
- Support Proofs of Concept (POCs) and platform deployments in customer cloud VPCs and on-premises environments.
- Deploy, scale, and optimize ML/NLP workloads, particularly model inference.
- Lead initiatives to enhance system reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
- Contribute to architecture and infrastructure decisions for platform scaling.
- Champion best practices in code quality, testing, and DevOps culture.
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure backend services and platform components.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for addressing customer tickets.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer with a focus on backend systems and platform engineering.
- At least 2 years of DevOps experience.
- At least 2 years of development experience.
- Deep experience with computing environments (GCP, AWS, Onprem, or Azure).
- Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, etc.).
- Experience working on ML platforms or supporting ML workloads in production.
- Familiarity with data infrastructure (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Airflow).
- Proficiency in languages like Go, Python, or Java.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.).
- Experience providing technical support of custom-developed systems to customers.
- Proficiency in AI-assisted coding and managing AI agents.
