About the job

Torc is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer focused on 3D Perception to join their Multi-Modal Perception team. This role is crucial for developing the machine learning systems that enable autonomous trucks to perceive and understand their surroundings. You will advance Bird's Eye View (BEV) perception capabilities, creating production-ready solutions to enhance environmental understanding, model robustness, and overall system performance within Torc's autonomy stack. This is a collaborative role where you'll work with engineers and researchers to tackle complex real-world perception challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy production machine learning models for perception systems.
  • Manage end-to-end model development, including data preparation, training, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Write production-quality ML code for scalable training, evaluation, and inference workflows.
  • Analyze model performance, identify failure modes, and iterate to improve robustness and accuracy.
  • Develop and optimize perception models using multi-modal sensor data, focusing on camera and 3D perception.
  • Collaborate with software and infrastructure teams to integrate perception models into production autonomy software.
  • Improve training pipelines, data workflows, and tooling to accelerate model iteration and deployment.
  • Contribute to model architecture discussions and technical decision-making.
  • Mentor junior engineers on implementation, experimentation, and ML best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or related technical field with 6+ years of industry experience, OR Master's degree with 3+ years, OR Ph.D. with 1+ years.
  • Experience developing production ML models for computer vision, perception, robotics, or autonomous systems.
  • Strong Python and PyTorch programming skills, with experience in production-quality ML code.
  • Experience training, evaluating, and improving deep learning models with large-scale datasets.
  • Experience with image-based and/or 3D perception systems.
  • Strong understanding of deep learning architectures for perception applications.
  • Experience debugging model behavior, analyzing performance metrics, and improving model reliability.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous perception challenges into practical ML solutions and deliver independently.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally to integrate ML models into larger software systems.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation package with bonus and stock options
  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision premiums
  • 401K plan with 6% employer match
  • Flexibility in schedule
  • Generous paid vacation (available immediately)
  • Company-wide holiday office closures
  • AD+D and Life Insurance
