About the job
The Product-Led Growth team at Toast builds in-product experiences that guide restaurants in discovering, trying, buying, and adopting necessary Toast products. This role involves owning the services and surfaces responsible for targeted offers, purchase flows, and activation, with a strong focus on measurable, revenue-attached outcomes. You will ship experiments, analyze results, and develop shared infrastructure to accelerate future launches. This position requires collaboration with product, marketing, sales operations, and data science to translate customer behavior hypotheses into testable in-product experiences and validate them with data.
Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end development of backend services for in-product growth experiences, including eligibility, targeting, offer delivery, self-serve purchase, activation, and conversion tracking.
- Build shared infrastructure to reduce the cost of future experiments, such as reusable targeting and eligibility services, campaign configuration, and a pluggable purchase flow.
- Develop and evolve integrations with dependent systems, consuming propensity scores, Toast IQ recommendations, and CMS controls, and connecting to billing and provisioning systems.
- Build LLM-powered experiences on Toast IQ, encompassing prompt and tool design, evaluation, and production monitoring.
- Design experimentation and attribution instrumentation for clear measurement stories and use production data to iterate on experiences.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (product, design, marketing, sales, data science) to translate business goals into testable product changes.
- Contribute to technical design and architecture discussions, and help establish engineering standards.
- Mentor other engineers through code review, pairing, and technical guidance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building and maintaining production backend systems in Kotlin, Java, or another object-oriented language.
- Sufficient full-stack experience to ship web or native front-end changes when needed.
- Proven ability to own features end-to-end through design, launch, measurement, and iteration.
- Product-minded builder comfortable making product calls and iterating based on customer behavior.
- Experience with experimentation, A/B testing, or growth engineering, and a working understanding of attribution.
- Experience building on LLMs or AI platforms in production or side projects.
- Experience building customer-facing features on top of data products like scores, segments, or recommendations is a plus.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and making tradeoffs between speed and scale.
- Proficient with AI tooling such as Claude, Cursor, and MCP servers.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation and benefits programs
- Healthy lifestyle support
- Flexibility to meet changing needs
