Synthio is seeking exceptional AI Engineers to build deeply technical systems and communicate clearly about their work. You will operate across the AI stack, encompassing LLM orchestration, retrieval, agents, evaluations, voice systems, APIs, and production infrastructure. The role involves owning problems from initial exploration through deployment and ongoing iteration, contributing to the development of cutting-edge conversational voice and video AI for the life sciences industry. This is an opportunity to shape not only the product but also the company's identity and culture within an early-stage, fast-scaling startup.
Responsibilities
- Build production AI systems using frontier models, retrieval, tool use, agents, and structured workflows.
- Design and productionize LLM pipelines, including prompting, context engineering, retrieval, orchestration, and evaluations.
- Build backend services, APIs, data flows, and integrations that power AI products.
- Work on real-time voice and multimodal AI systems.
- Design evaluation suites to identify failures, regressions, and opportunities for model improvement.
- Experiment with new models and techniques to determine their production utility.
- Debug problems across models, application code, data, and infrastructure.
- Communicate technical decisions, tradeoffs, results, and failures clearly.
Requirements
- 3+ years of strong software or AI engineering experience.
- Excellent Python and software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience shipping LLM-powered or machine-learning systems into production.
- Strong understanding of retrieval, embeddings, tool calling, agents, and evaluations.
- Ability to reason about latency, reliability, observability, cost, and failure modes.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to structure ambiguous problems and drive them to completion.
- High agency and a bias toward building and shipping.
- Experience with speech, voice AI, or real-time systems (strong plus).
- Experience with AWS and production cloud infrastructure (strong plus).
- Experience building developer platforms or reusable AI infrastructure (strong plus).
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers or in regulated industries (strong plus).
