About the job
Supabase is seeking a Software Engineer, AI Tooling Infrastructure to join their AI Tooling team. This role focuses on building and operating the backend services that power Supabase's AI products, such as the Supabase MCP server and services supporting agent skills and the dashboard assistant. The position involves ensuring these services are reliable, correctly authorized, and observable, handling the unique traffic patterns of AI clients and agents. It's a systems and infrastructure-focused role, requiring hands-on building and operation rather than just advisory. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced, asynchronous environments and is passionate about creating scalable developer tools.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate production backend services for AI products, including deployment, scaling, configuration, and release.
- Define service structure, potentially splitting or reshaping services for safety and maintainability.
- Define, measure, and meet service reliability targets, setting SLOs and tracking error budgets.
- Participate in the AI Tooling team on-call rotation, responding to and resolving incidents.
- Address recurring issues in the AI Tooling team support queue by implementing fixes.
- Manage authentication and authorization for AI and agent clients, including OAuth apps, scoped tokens, and permissions.
- Ensure observability for team services through metrics, traces, logs, dashboards, and alerts.
- Handle capacity and abuse for agent traffic, implementing rate limits, cost controls, and safety measures.
- Improve service architecture as services grow.
- Collaborate with Platform and SRE teams on shared code, release processes, infrastructure, and incident practices.
- Contribute to the code of AI Tooling team's tools, focusing on reliability and security.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and running backend services in production, including on-call experience.
- Proficiency in TypeScript or Go, and comfort with the other language.
- Experience designing and operating APIs with real consumers, including versioning, error handling, rate limiting, and backwards-compatible changes.
- Strong knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, JWT, and API authorization.
- Good understanding of PostgreSQL and relational databases.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, containerized deployments, and infrastructure as code.
- Ability to debug across services using metrics, traces, and logs.
- Clear written communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders in distributed teams.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and moving quickly.
- Deep expertise in at least one of: APIs and auth, Operations, or Gateways and distributed systems.
Benefits
- Fully Remote hiring globally
- WeWork membership or co-working allowance
- ESOP (equity ownership)
- Tech Allowance
