We are seeking an Engineering Manager for AI/ML to lead Rula's AI Engineering team, focusing on both applied product capabilities and foundational ML platforms. This role involves guiding senior and staff engineers to deliver user-facing features like transcript summarization and search relevance, while also architecting core AI/ML infrastructure such as feature stores and AI observability platforms. The ideal candidate will balance execution speed, strong coaching, and a rigorous sense of clinical safety to ensure solutions and models scale effectively and safely. You will be instrumental in shaping Rula's AI engineering culture and driving technological advancements that transform mental healthcare delivery.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership to the AI Engineering team.
- Guide senior and staff engineers in delivering user-facing AI features.
- Architect and develop core AI/ML infrastructure, including feature stores and AI observability platforms.
- Ensure solutions and models scale safely and effectively.
- Shape the culture of AI engineering within the company.
- Drive technological synergy to improve mental healthcare delivery.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering and machine learning experience.
- 5+ years designing, scaling, and deploying distributed backend systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP).
- 3+ years of direct engineering management experience, including hiring and managing high-performing engineers.
- 3+ years of experience technically leading or building core ML infrastructure (feature stores, MLOps, model deployment, AI observability).
- 2+ years of experience directing or developing production-grade applied AI features, focusing on LLM integrations (NLP, RAG) or search/relevance engines.
- Proven track record of managing the delivery of both user-facing features and backend infrastructure.
- Experience shipping AI systems in regulated environments (HealthTech, FinTech) is preferred.
- Deep experience designing production-ready evaluation frameworks for LLMs is preferred.
- A strong philosophy on using AI to multiply engineering output and deploying AI dev tools is preferred.
- Nuanced experience and a clear framework for managing dual-mandate prioritization (product delivery vs. platform investment) is preferred.
