About the job
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Applied AI & Streaming team. This role will focus on leveraging AI to enhance cloud gaming experiences, making them faster, more personal, and accessible. You will be instrumental in building agents and inference-backed systems for a real-time streaming platform, working at the intersection of AI and performance-sensitive systems where many problems are still being defined. The position offers the opportunity to shape the future of AI in gaming and contribute to a dynamic technology company.
Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and ship AI-powered capabilities across the streaming platform and player experience.
- Apply inference and agents to real-time performance, player engagement, personalization, and accessibility.
- Utilize AI to understand, optimize, and evolve large existing codebases, including the streaming stack.
- Build and extend the platform in C++, and help shape future technologies and architecture.
- Develop production AI necessities such as evaluation, telemetry, guardrails, fallbacks, and optimize for latency and cost.
- Translate ambiguous ideas into demos and experiments, measure effectiveness, and harden for production.
- Work with AI-native workflows, including coding agents and automation, and help the team adopt these practices.
- Collaborate with a small, focused engineering team and partners across streaming, platform, and cloud.
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
- Senior-level software engineering experience with a track record of owning complex systems end-to-end.
- Strong C++ skills from professional work in production codebases.
- Hands-on experience building and deploying agents or AI-powered features in production, including managing evals, regressions, latency, and cost.
- Strong understanding of turning models into products, including context and prompt design, tool use, orchestration, memory, retrieval, model selection, and inference placement.
- Fluency with AI-native engineering workflows.
- Product judgment to discern valuable AI applications from gimmicks.
- Ability to work in ambiguity, move quickly, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Clear communication, strong ownership, and a collaborative spirit.
