About the job
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer, Data & Machine Learning to serve as the chief architect for their Data & Intelligence organization. This is a senior individual-contributor role reporting directly to the Vice President, responsible for defining the technical strategy and target architecture for how SIE builds, reuses, and activates trusted data and intelligence. The role involves hands-on work, including authoring architectures, reference implementations, prototyping, and reviewing designs and code. The engineer will set the architecture for key initiatives over the next three years, focusing on areas like player understanding, content intelligence, unified measurement, and activation of data products. This position is crucial for shaping the future of data and intelligence across PlayStation.
Responsibilities
- Translate the multi-year Data & Intelligence strategy into a coherent technical strategy and target architecture.
- Define principles for trusted data products, ML systems, shared intelligence, evaluation, activation, and lifecycle management.
- Chair the architecture review forum, setting its charter, cadence, publishing decisions, and tracking adoption.
- Own and maintain stable boundary decisions between reusable platform capabilities and domain delivery.
- Define and ratify standards for data contracts, golden paths, model evaluation, experimentation, observability, reliability, cost, and lifecycle management.
- Lead the technical direction of complex cross-organizational initiatives, authoring proposals, reference designs, and prototypes.
- Collaborate with engineering and data science teams to remove critical blockers and ensure architectural decisions translate into usable capabilities.
- Partner with security, privacy, legal, governance, and responsible-AI teams to embed controls throughout the data and ML lifecycle.
- Identify and drive rationalization of duplicative capabilities and improve interoperability across SIE's data and ML landscape.
- Advise senior executives on major technical investments, tradeoffs, emerging capabilities, and long-term risk, producing written recommendations for annual planning.
Requirements
- Serve as chief architect for the Data & Intelligence organization.
- Act as the senior technical authority for building, reusing, and activating trusted data and intelligence.
- Author architectures and reference implementations.
- Prototype uncertain approaches.
- Review critical designs and code.
- Step in directly to resolve technical problems that risk important outcomes.
- Set the architecture for initiatives defining the next three years of data and intelligence at PlayStation.
- Establish a single, reusable understanding of the player.
- Develop intelligence about titles, experiences, and player engagement.
- Create reusable intelligence for partners regarding title launches and lifecycles.
- Define unified measurement for experimentation, attribution, and causal analysis.
- Develop real-time signals, activation data products, and APIs for data activation.
- Build a shared layer of business meaning and metrics for AI agents and analytical tools.
- Ensure decision-grade finance and supply-chain data is available.
- Establish trusted foundations and golden paths, including data contracts, certification, lineage, and unified events.
- Ensure priority launches have signals and measures from day one.
- Work directly with engineering and data science teams.
- Partner with security, privacy, legal, governance, and responsible-AI teams.
- Advise senior executives on technical investments and tradeoffs.
