About the job
NVIDIA's Interconnect Hardware Frontend team is seeking an intern to explore the application of modern AI in RTL, verification, debug, and design-review workflows. The intern will develop a focused AI-for-hardware use case from concept to prototype, assess current AI tools and agents on real engineering challenges, and contribute to the team's understanding of valuable AI capabilities. This role involves collaboration with a global, cross-site team of RTL, verification, CAD, and methodology engineers.
Responsibilities
- Prototype AI-assisted workflows for hardware frontend problems (RTL, verification, debug, code understanding, design review) and iterate with users.
- Evaluate new AI tools, models, and agent capabilities on engineering tasks and assess their adoption potential.
- Build small, reusable tools or automation to improve workflow efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to transform pain points into practical AI use cases and refine them based on feedback.
- Share findings on effective and ineffective AI applications to guide team experimentation and investment.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Solid Python and software engineering fundamentals, with experience in building automation, scripts, or tools.
- Exposure to hardware frontend workflows (RTL design, verification, debug, design methodology) through academic or project work.
- Sufficient hardware understanding to evaluate the usefulness and technical soundness of AI-assisted solutions.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and a collaborative, self-driven attitude.
