About the job
Nearby.ai is seeking a high-potential MBA intern to lead a merchant-acquisition initiative end-to-end. This role offers full ownership, from market research and territory strategy to self-sourced execution and final strategic recommendations delivered directly to leadership. You will operate with the autonomy of a strategy consultant and the accountability of a founder, defining your own market thesis, building your own pipeline, and being judged on business outcomes like partners signed, pipeline built, and insights generated. This is a flagship early-talent initiative designed for someone who wants real responsibility and hands-on experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Map the local service-provider landscape in an assigned category or geography, including merchant density, acquisition channels, and competitive platforms.
- Develop a scoring framework to prioritize merchant categories or neighborhoods for acquisition.
- Build a target list and devise outreach strategies to connect with local business owners.
- Pitch Nearby.ai's value proposition and handle objections from business owners.
- Build and maintain a CRM or spreadsheet pipeline with discipline, tracking stages, next steps, and expected closes.
- Treat outreach as an experiment, testing channels, messaging, and timing to optimize based on data.
- Analyze outreach and conversion data to identify successful strategies and quantify results.
- Translate merchant feedback into structured insights to inform Nearby.ai's value proposition or onboarding process.
- Develop a business case justifying future company focus areas based on expected partners and revenue impact.
- Draft outreach scripts, pitch decks, and partnership proposals tailored to different merchant types.
- Lead onboarding conversations with merchants through to closing.
- Recommend improvements to the onboarding process based on merchant feedback.
- Report weekly on outreach metrics and pipeline, framing them as insights and next steps for leadership.
- Deliver a capstone presentation to company leadership detailing market analysis, results, and a recommended go-forward strategy for merchant acquisition.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing an MBA or equivalent graduate business program from a top-tier program.
- Prior experience in SaaS, agentic services, marketing, sales, BD, or a startup is ideal.
- Strong business acumen, critical thinking, and structured problem-solving skills.
- Ability to be fully self-directed and build plans independently.
- Passion for data-driven decision-making and comfort working with spreadsheets and analysis.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with confidence in direct negotiation.
- High tolerance for ambiguity and rejection, energized by 0-to-1, hands-on work.
- Comfort inventing your own approach and adapting as you go.
Benefits
- Paid internship
- Potential to convert to a full-time role based on performance
