About the job

NewsBreak is seeking an AI Engineer with a focus on AI-Native Product Engineering. This role is part of a team rethinking software development in an AI-native world, where AI is becoming the default for designing, building, testing, and operating software. Engineers on this team will work with coding agents to ship production products rapidly, establishing the architecture, context, quality standards, and guardrails necessary for reliable AI-generated software. The position is frontend-leaning but requires the ability to work across APIs, backend services, data flows, and developer tooling, owning problems end-to-end rather than focusing on a single layer of the stack.

Responsibilities

  • Build user-facing products end-to-end, from product requirements and frontend architecture through API integration, backend changes, testing, rollout, and production metrics.
  • Utilize AI as a core development tool, working with coding agents to generate, refactor, test, debug, and understand code, while ensuring production quality.
  • Own frontend architecture and product quality, building maintainable component systems, state and data flows, performance-sensitive experiences, and reliable testing patterns.
  • Cross frontend/backend boundaries to complete product experiences, making necessary API or backend changes.
  • Set high standards for AI-generated code through critical review and automated testing, observability, staged rollouts, and rollback mechanisms.
  • Improve the AI-native engineering workflow by turning repetitive development tasks into reusable agent workflows, tooling, conventions, and playbooks.
  • Modernize existing systems by incrementally refactoring legacy frontend and service code for better understandability and modification by both engineers and AI agents.
  • Own production outcomes, investigating performance issues, regressions, and incidents using logs, metrics, experiments, and AI-assisted debugging.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience with strong depth in frontend or client-side product engineering.
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals and hands-on experience with React or a comparable modern frontend framework.
  • Experience shipping user-facing features in production and making frontend architecture decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work beyond the frontend layer, such as designing or modifying APIs, backend services, data contracts, or developer tooling.
  • Hands-on use of modern AI coding tools or coding agents in real development work.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in system behavior, debugging, reliability, testing, and performance.
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies and effectively use AI to expand into adjacent parts of the stack.
  • Strong product mindset, focusing on user experience and business outcomes.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment where engineers help define solutions.

Benefits

  • Discretionary bonus
  • Stock options
