About the job
Nebius is building a full-stack AI cloud platform to support developers and enterprises from data and model training through to production deployment. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to work on the rendering infrastructure of a novel search engine tailored for agentic AI consumption. In this role, you will focus on loading modern web pages in a custom-built browser, ensuring content is rendered completely and reliably at a cost-effective scale. Your work will involve modifying the Chromium browser to optimize performance, reduce resource consumption, and maintain compatibility with web standards, ensuring high-quality content for downstream AI systems.
Responsibilities
- Modify Chromium's core components (Blink, V8 integration, compositor, network service) to reduce CPU, memory, and startup costs per page.
- Strip down Chromium for agent workloads by removing unnecessary features (e.g., image/media decoding, web font downloads, non-pixel rendering) while preserving essential script functionality.
- Ensure browser compatibility with the web by verifying that removed features do not alter site behavior or rendering.
- Profile and tune browser fleets, focusing on process models, memory usage, startup times, isolation, and crash handling.
- Build the production system for launching, pooling, recycling, and monitoring browsers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building production systems.
- Expertise in C++ within large, performance-critical codebases, ideally Chromium, Blink, or V8.
- Strong understanding of Chromium architecture, including process model, Mojo IPC, rendering pipeline, and network service.
- Experience building, debugging, and shipping custom Chromium builds, including build systems, tracing, and crash analysis.
- Proficiency in profiling CPU, memory, and I/O for browser fleets using tools like perf, tracing, and flame graphs.
- Knowledge of Linux process isolation, resource management, concurrency, and memory management.
- Experience running browsers in production or building related infrastructure.
- Familiarity with modern frontend framework rendering (SSR, CSR, streaming, hydration) is a plus.
- Experience with distributed systems, Kubernetes, Go, or Python is a plus.
- Contributions to browser engines like Chromium, Blink, V8, Firefox, or WebKit are a plus.
- Experience building or maintaining a patched browser is a plus.
- Familiarity with browser instrumentation, including the Chrome DevTools Protocol, is a plus.
