About the job

MongoDB is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join its Enterprise Architecture team, focusing on AI experimentation. This role involves partnering with various internal teams to explore, prototype, and validate emerging AI capabilities before they are integrated into formal roadmaps. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, iterating quickly on new ideas. This position is crucial for identifying and communicating risks, unknowns, and open questions to stakeholders, ensuring that validated AI capabilities are effectively handed off for potential production use.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run experiments to test emerging AI capabilities against internal use cases.
  • Condense and document learnings from experiments for organizational use.
  • Build lightweight prototypes to quickly validate or discard ideas.
  • Stay current on new AI tooling and models, and develop internal proof points.
  • Partner with product, platform, and internal engineering teams to transition validated capabilities.
  • Maintain technical rigor and clear documentation of findings.
  • Identify and communicate risks, unknowns, and open questions to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Deep experience with at least one modern programming language (Python, Typescript, Go, Rust).
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to independently solve complex engineering problems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and scoping experiments.
  • Hands-on experience prototyping with LLMs or agentic systems (evals, fine-tuning, RAG, tool use, orchestration frameworks).
  • Ability to iterate fast, especially when requirements are unclear.
  • Keeps up with emerging AI tooling and models.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and passionate about developing usable software.
