MongoDB is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join its R&D organization, focusing on bridging application modernization efforts with Product and Engineering teams. This role will explore the possibilities of Generative AI technologies to accelerate application modernization programs, providing feedback to MongoDB's R&D to shape future capabilities. The engineer will work alongside project teams executing modernization initiatives, evaluating, building, and applying AI tools, and identifying opportunities for their deployment. This includes contributing to tooling prototypes and influencing the product roadmap. The position is based in Dublin with a hybrid working model.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, build, and apply AI tools in customer application modernization projects.
- Facilitate the usage of AI tools and processes across project teams.
- Identify opportunities for tooling deployment and select potential third-party tools.
- Contribute to the development of tooling prototypes and shape the product roadmap.
- Contribute to customer application modernization initiatives across all lifecycle phases.
- Test drive MongoDB migration products to deliver on customer use cases and provide feedback.
- Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to influence the MongoDB product roadmap.
- Execute Proofs of Concept (POCs), developing or extending tools as needed for customer success.
- Maintain a broad and deep technical understanding of MongoDB products and underlying technologies.
- Work as part of a wider delivery team, collaborating with Professional Services, project managers, and account teams.
- Assist sales teams in evaluating opportunities with prospects and customers.
- Develop a playbook for customer application modernization engagements.
- Communicate complex technical proposals simply and convincingly to diverse audiences.
- Provide insights into customer needs, product requirements, and strategic opportunities based on field experience.
- Contribute to the success of customer application migration initiatives.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience as a field engineer, professional services consultant, or full-stack developer working directly with enterprise clients.
- Proficiency in Java or C#, with familiarity in common database access patterns and frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment/operations.
- Experience developing enterprise applications with relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, PostgreSQL) using SQL and stored procedures.
- Good understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools, and services.
- Experience building applications/tools using Generative AI is a significant plus (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini, OpenAI APIs).
- Strong interest in how AI-supported toolchains can improve application development.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
- Willingness to dive into complex domains and bring new software tools and technologies to the table.
- Great communication skills (spoken and written).
