MongoDB is seeking a Software Engineer in Sydney to join the Application Modernisation Platform (AMP) team. This role focuses on building intelligent tools that guide customers through modernizing their applications from legacy systems to MongoDB. The App Analysis & Modelling team specifically develops code analysis tools to create dependency graphs and generate insights into existing codebases, as well as schema recommendation engines. This work intersects analysis, data modelling, and AI, empowering developers to make data-driven decisions during their transition. The ideal candidate will have strong backend engineering fundamentals with the ability to contribute across the full stack, and will collaborate with product management and other engineering teams to deliver cutting-edge features.
Responsibilities
- Contribute high-quality, well-tested code to backend and frontend services.
- Design and build scalable APIs and data pipelines for code analysis and schema recommendation features.
- Drive technical design and architecture for complex features (senior candidates) or deliver robust implementations (mid-level candidates).
- Collaborate with Product Management, engineers, and designers to build and deliver on the product roadmap.
- Participate in code reviews to enforce best practices and maintain code quality.
- Give and solicit feedback on technical design documents and pull requests.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the stack.
- Perform engineering process tasks such as CI/CD, quality, and testing.
- Mentor and guide team members and elevate engineering best practices (senior candidates).
Requirements
- 3-5+ years (Mid-Level) or 5+ years (Senior) of commercial software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or Java.
- Experience designing and building scalable, high-performance APIs and backend services.
- Solid understanding of relational data modelling and SQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar), including schema design and query optimisation.
- Good understanding of algorithms, data structures, and their time and space complexity.
- Experience with frontend development using React and TypeScript, or willingness to work across the full stack.
- Degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Curiosity, a positive attitude, and a drive to continue learning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
