We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our AI Interfaces team within AI Builder Experience (ABX). In this role, you will provide technical direction, shape architecture, and build core products that enable seamless interaction between developers, AI agents, and MongoDB. Our team is responsible for the interfaces through which humans and agents connect to MongoDB, including the MongoDB MCP Server, Agent Skills, our Intelligent Assistant Platform, and purpose-built agents. This is a new team charting new territory, and you will be at the frontier, building technologies that allow AI applications and agentic workflows to work seamlessly with MongoDB at scale. You will integrate with fast-moving, often unproven technologies, make pragmatic calls in the face of ambiguity, and own high-visibility projects end-to-end with minimal guidance. We are looking for product-minded engineers who thrive on autonomy and take pride in shipping high-quality software.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical direction and shape architecture for AI interfaces.
- Build core products enabling seamless interaction between developers, AI agents, and MongoDB.
- Own surfaces for human and agent connection to MongoDB, including MCP Server, Agent Skills, and Intelligent Assistant Platform.
- Integrate with fast-moving and unproven technologies.
- Make pragmatic decisions in ambiguous situations.
- Own high-visibility projects end-to-end with minimal guidance.
- Collaborate with research, product management, product engineering, product design, and other teams.
- Design, build, and deliver well-tested core platform components.
- Contribute to shaping architecture, code reviews, and development practices.
- Mentor fellow engineers and assume ownership of projects.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
Requirements
- Strong background in building core components for scalable, high-availability web applications and services.
- 7+ years of experience building backend systems, primarily in Node.js and TypeScript.
- Interest in working across a polyglot codebase.
- Proven success in designing, writing, testing, debugging, and performance tuning software systems in large codebases.
- Track record of identifying problems, implementing solutions, and delivering complex projects independently.
- Product-minded approach to engineering with the ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs.
- Comfort operating amid ambiguity and rapidly evolving technologies.
- Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills.
- Strong technical background and eagerness to learn.
