About the job
The Transportation Safety and Resilience Group is seeking individuals with a background in applied engineering, modeling, simulation, and machine learning to develop algorithms and systems for autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles. This role involves creating new advanced decision support systems, architectures, and techniques for deploying semi-autonomous systems within the broader transportation domain. Key problem areas include algorithm development for collision avoidance, real-time contingency management, inter-vehicle coordination, and validation of decision support, surveillance, and tracking systems. The successful candidate will analyze operational problems, develop deployable solutions, and extend the group's impact across the transportation sector. Familiarity with modern machine learning approaches, particularly reinforcement learning, is expected. Additional responsibilities include leading applied research and development programs, formulating novel approaches to challenges, and publishing research findings.
