About the job

MatX is building custom silicon and co-designing hardware/software to make the world's largest AI models run with unprecedented efficiency and quality. The AI tooling team plays a crucial role across the entire stack, developing agent harnesses and shared workflows that optimize general-purpose coding agents for specific layers of the AI development process. This position offers a unique opportunity to work alongside hardware engineers, gain deep insights into RTL design, design verification (DV), and physical design (PD), and contribute to building the missing tools and workflows that empower AI agents in hardware engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Bridge the gap in AI agent capabilities for hardware engineering work by collaborating with RTL, DV, and PD engineers to identify and implement improvements in context, tools, or harnesses.
  • Develop novel tools to address challenges arising from AI-generated code, such as creating a review tool to break down large agent-generated diffs into manageable sections.
  • Establish and refine the AI tooling evaluation loop by analyzing historical bugs, replaying them with different agent configurations, and using the results to guide technology adoption.

Requirements

  • Fluency in RTL design, DV, or PD, or the ability to rapidly acquire it, with a focus on judging the accuracy of agent responses in these domains.
  • Extensive experience using coding agents with strong opinions on their usage, limitations, and verification methods.
  • Proven ability to build engineering workflows, including methodology, flow automation, review tooling, and agent harnesses, that are adopted and maintained by other engineers.
  • Experience identifying and correcting confidently incorrect assertions made by LLM agents by modifying their harnesses.

Benefits
