Mastercard's Services division is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join the Business & Market Insights (B&MI) team. This role is central to developing new products and capabilities driven by analytics and AI, leveraging rich data resources and AI platform capabilities. Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and productionize machine learning and data science solutions for complex business problems.
- Develop traditional ML solutions including feature engineering, model training, validation, evaluation, and deployment.
- Perform exploratory data analysis and translate complex datasets into actionable insights.
- Build Generative AI applications using Python, LangChain, and LangGraph.
- Optimize data pipelines and ML/GenAI workflows for performance, scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
- Evaluate GenAI solutions for answer quality, groundedness, reliability, latency, and cost.
- Develop robust and reusable Python components following sound software-engineering practices.
- Use PySpark for efficient processing, transformation, and analysis of large datasets.
- Write advanced, optimized SQL for data extraction, transformation, feature development, and analytical workloads.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Apply appropriate controls for data privacy, security, responsible AI, monitoring, and explainability.
- Conduct code reviews, establish reusable technical patterns, and mentor junior data scientists.
- Drive the evolution of B&MI products with a focus on data science and engineering.
- Participate in the exploration, application, and development of data science for product development.
- Identify and evaluate AI/ML techniques and tools for product development.
- Continuously innovate and determine new data science approaches and technologies.
- Partner with product, engineering, and sales to prioritize data science problems.
- Evaluate trade-offs between analytics solutions considering performance, usability, feasibility, timelines, and stakeholder opinions.
- Break down large solutions into smaller, releasable milestones.
- Evangelize releases, incorporate feedback, and track usage.
- Work with cross-functional teams to define vision, establish team culture, and processes.
- Prioritize operational activities based on key drivers of organization value.
- Identify and act upon product improvement opportunities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior colleagues.
Requirements
- 8-12 years of overall career experience in Data Science supporting Products.
- Experience with Generative AI applications using Python, LangChain, and LangGraph.
- Proficiency in PySpark for large-scale data processing.
- Advanced SQL skills for data extraction and analysis.
- Strong understanding of software engineering practices for Python component development.
- Experience with responsible AI principles, data privacy, security, monitoring, and explainability.
- Ability to mentor less-experienced data scientists.
