About the job
Lila Sciences is developing autonomous systems for scientific discovery, and this role focuses on building security into the AI infrastructure from the ground up. As a senior individual contributor on the IT & Security team, you will be responsible for security engineering across Lila's AI and ML systems, encompassing training and inference pipelines, model registries, MCP servers, and agent runtimes. Your work will involve translating the AI security roadmap into actionable controls, driving vulnerability remediation, and mitigating risks throughout the AI lifecycle, including data, models, pipelines, and agentic systems. This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise in cloud security, supply chain security, and AI-specific threat modeling, with a strong emphasis on cross-functional collaboration with AI Platform, AI Research, ML Operations, Science, and AI Safety teams to ensure security is integrated from the design phase.
Responsibilities
- Translate the AI security roadmap into delivered controls with measurable outcomes.
- Design and implement security controls for AI infrastructure, including training/inference pipelines, model registries, MCP servers, and agent runtimes.
- Ensure continuous compliance of AI infrastructure against internal standards and relevant frameworks.
- Drive vulnerability remediation for AI infrastructure, models, and dependencies.
- Reduce risk across data, models, pipelines, and agentic systems through threat modeling, control design, and adversarial assessment.
- Partner with various AI and ML teams to embed security at the design stage.
Requirements
- Strong background in security engineering, cloud security, or DevSecOps with hands-on experience securing production infrastructure.
- Working knowledge of AI/ML systems, the ML lifecycle, and AI-specific risks (e.g., prompt injection, model poisoning, insecure agent tooling, inference-time threats).
- Experience with software supply chain security and vulnerability management.
- Experience implementing data security controls (classification, data flow mapping, access control, encryption) in cloud environments.
- Proven ability to collaborate across engineering teams and drive cross-functional remediation.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity in a fast-moving research environment.
Benefits
- Competitive base compensation with bonus potential.
- Generous early-stage equity.
- Comprehensive benefits program (medical, dental, vision).
- Employer-paid life and disability insurance.
- Flexible time off with generous company holidays.
- Paid parental leave.
- Educational assistance program.
- Commuter benefits (including bike share memberships for office-based employees).
- Company subsidized lunch program.
