Mistral AI is seeking an experienced negotiator for its Strategic Data & Licensing Partnerships team. This role focuses on sourcing, licensing, and establishing partnerships for high-value content such as books, journals, research papers, academic datasets, and multimedia, crucial for AI training, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and distribution. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the acquisition of premium content, negotiating complex agreements, and cultivating long-term relationships with publishers, universities, research institutions, and data providers. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure access to quality data aligned with Mistral AI's objectives and to enable innovative data utilization. The ideal candidate is a results-driven negotiator and strategic thinker passionate about AI, academic content, and ethical data practices, with a proven history of closing significant deals in relevant sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a pipeline of high-quality content sources.
  • Qualify and vet data and content providers for legal compliance and business requirements.
  • Provide reports and analytics on procurement activities and investments.
  • Act as a primary contact for external partners, understanding and addressing their needs.
  • Develop multi-pronged relationships and long-term collaborations with partners.
  • Create programs that ensure fair compensation and sustainability for content creators.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Science, Product, Go To Market) to align procurement with their objectives.
  • Evaluate 'make vs. buy' options for content sourcing in conjunction with the Human Data team.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of negotiating and closing complex deals (>$10M), including revenue-sharing, licensing, or co-development agreements.
  • Deep understanding of AI training data ecosystems and ability to translate this into business terms.
  • Legal acumen regarding data acquisition and content licensing.
  • Strong STEM background (degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field).
  • Passion for academic content and research.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience negotiating with C-level executives.
  • Business acumen with experience in market analysis and financial modeling (e.g., DCF analysis).
  • Fluency in English and French; additional languages are a plus.
  • Knowledge of global copyright laws.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, global environment with distributed teams.
