About the job
Join a leading financial institution as a Senior Principal Software Engineer within the Chief Technology Office (CTO). In this role, you will leverage deep engineering expertise to enhance, build, and deliver market-leading technology products securely and at scale. You will work on a greenfield opportunity focused on addressing Software Dependency Risk, a growing threat in enterprise technology. As AI-assisted development accelerates the adoption of open-source and commercial packages, this role is critical in providing visibility into the dependency health of thousands of applications across the firm. This is a foundational infrastructure project with a clear roadmap and mandate to manage software risk at scale.
Responsibilities
- Define and own the platform architecture for data ingestion pipelines, dependency graph modeling, and developer-facing APIs on AWS and Java.
- Serve as the technical authority for design decisions, performance issues, and build-vs-buy choices.
- Partner with leadership on technical strategy and roadmap sequencing.
- Mentor senior engineers and elevate the team's technical capabilities.
- Advise and lead the strategy and development of multiple products, applications, and technologies.
- Create novel code solutions and drive the development of new production code capabilities.
- Lead the delivery of the core platform build-out, including data ingestion, dependency graph modeling, developer surfaces, and firm-wide integration.
- Set strategy and operating standards for agentic AI-enabled engineering to drive improvements in delivery speed, reliability, and code quality, defining guardrails for validation, security, and reuse.
- Apply knowledge of AI-assisted development and automation tools within the Software Development Life Cycle to enhance automation value at scale.
- Build an agentic-first development practice, embedding AI tools into the design, coding, review, and shipping processes, and setting standards for AI-augmented engineering teams.
- Act as a senior engineering voice, building relationships and credibility across organizations, and representing engineering in cross-functional discussions with security, risk, and compliance partners.
- Translate deep technical work into business impact for senior stakeholders.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts and 10+ years of applied experience.
- Experience operating at both strategic (architecture, strategy) and tactical (code reviews, debugging) levels.
- Expertise in one or more programming languages, specifically Java and Python.
- Experience designing and scaling data-intensive platforms, including data structures, pipelines, large-scale ingestion, and graph or dependency modeling.
- Proven experience delivering software from concept through production stability and iterative improvement.
- Practical experience with AI-first development practices, utilizing LLMs and agentic tools to accelerate software delivery.
- Demonstrated experience designing and scaling agentic AI-enabled development patterns across teams, including establishing governance for validation, traceability, and secure handling of sensitive data.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI use and control expectations at scale, including security, data sensitivity, and risk-based governance.
- Ability to advise senior leaders on safe AI adoption, reuse, and measurable outcomes.
- Experience applying expertise and new methods to solve complex technology problems across various technical disciplines.
- Extensive practical cloud-native experience, particularly with AWS.
