About the job
We are seeking an Applied AI Scientist with substantial machine learning experience to join our AI Technologies team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing practical machine learning and generative AI solutions, transitioning them from experimentation to production environments. You will collaborate closely with product owners, data engineers, software engineers, and fellow ML practitioners to design, test, refine, and deploy AI/ML capabilities at scale. This is a hands-on position for individuals who thrive on solving technical challenges, writing code, exploring innovative approaches, and building reliable systems from initial concepts.
Responsibilities
- Define problems, success metrics, and technical strategies in collaboration with product and engineering teams.
- Design experiments, establish baselines, and benchmark models and agent systems, investigating failures to drive improvements.
- Develop Python code from experimental prototypes to production-ready, tested code, working with engineers on deployment and monitoring.
- Evaluate and communicate trade-offs between model quality, reliability, latency, and cost.
- Lead technical design reviews and mentor other ML practitioners.
- Collaborate with engineering and control teams to ensure data, model governance, and security requirements are met.
Requirements
- Minimum of five years of applied ML experience, including leadership in complex technical projects and production model deployment.
- Proficiency in machine learning and deep learning, with experience in method selection, experiment design, and result evaluation.
- Strong Python programming skills and experience developing tested, maintainable software.
- Practical experience building and evaluating LLM-based systems, including retrieval, tool use, or agent orchestration.
- Ability to translate ambiguous requirements into testable problems, work autonomously, and clearly articulate technical decisions.
- A STEM degree or equivalent practical experience.
