This role is for an engineer who wants to lead AI engagements end-to-end, from solution design to production deployment, and be accountable for their team's success. You will be the go-to person for complex technical challenges, making key architecture decisions, and setting high delivery standards. The role involves managing teams, dependencies, and risks, while understanding enterprise environments and navigating internal review and security processes. You will also own the client relationship, providing advice and managing expectations effectively. This is a hands-on engineering role where you will be actively involved in the codebase weekly, making and owning architecture decisions, and solving difficult technical problems.
Responsibilities
- Lead AI engineering engagements from solution design to production deployment in complex enterprise environments.
- Design and build production agentic AI systems, including multi-agent orchestration, autonomous agent workflows, tool-use patterns, and reliability layers.
- Build advanced RAG pipelines with robust retrieval architectures, embedding strategies, reranking, hybrid search, and evaluation frameworks.
- Develop and deploy MCP servers and tool ecosystem integrations for agent capabilities within enterprise infrastructure.
- Design evaluation and observability frameworks for non-deterministic systems to ensure AI applications are measurable and continuously improving.
- Own the client technical relationship at a senior stakeholder level.
- Navigate organizational complexities such as procurement, compliance, and IT teams to maintain delivery momentum.
- Identify and shape new opportunities within existing clients, demonstrating commercial awareness.
- Codify repeatable deployment patterns and contribute insights to the wider business, including reference architectures and evaluation methodologies.
- Mentor AI Engineers and elevate the practice through knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with Anthropic field teams on joint client engagements and represent Indicium AI.
Requirements
- Experience taking AI systems from ambiguous problems to production deployment, including agentic systems, retrieval architectures, and evaluation frameworks within real organizations.
- Proven experience owning the technical direction of a project, making architecture calls, and being accountable for their outcomes.
- Hands-on experience writing production code, not just reviewing it.
- Experience leading a delivery team, including planning, sequencing, unblocking, and providing clear status updates.
- Experience serving as the technical lead for a client, including managing challenging situations.
- Experience mentoring and growing other engineers.
- Experience contributing to shaping or estimating work commercially.
- Experience navigating large organizations, including security reviews, compliance, legacy systems, and diverse team incentives.
