General Motors (GM) is driving the future of mobility with advanced self-driving and electric vehicle technologies. The AV ML Infra team builds ML infrastructure to support AI and ML innovation across various teams, enabling scalable ML experimentation and enhancing ML engineer productivity. This Principal AI/ML Engineer role will lead the AV ML Infra team, shaping long-term vision and execution strategies for GM's AI and ML efforts. The focus is on developing infrastructure products that empower teams to perform machine learning and data science at scale, rather than applying ML models for specific tasks.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test scalable distributed computing and data processing solutions using cloud technologies (GCP/Azure).
- Own technical projects from inception to completion, contributing to the product roadmap and making technical trade-off decisions.
- Collaborate effectively in team planning, code reviews, and design discussions, managing cross-team impacts and conflicts.
- Conduct technical interviews, onboard, and mentor engineers and interns to foster growth and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in large-scale distributed systems.
- 5+ years of experience leading large-scale initiatives.
- Proficiency in building scalable cloud infrastructure using Python, C++, or Golang.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain systems at scale.
- Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Passion for autonomous vehicle technology.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Proven track record of efficiently solving complex problems.
