Expedia Group is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the ML Platform team. This role is instrumental in building and evolving Expedia Group's Machine Learning Platform, which supports the entire ML lifecycle from feature engineering and training to real-time inference, monitoring, and cost transparency. The platform aims to reduce the barrier to entry for teams to safely and efficiently ship models at scale. You will contribute to designing, building, and improving scalable ML platform capabilities, ensuring high-quality software delivery, and enhancing platform reliability and performance. This position involves partnering with engineers and stakeholders to define technical strategies and influence the platform's direction, while applying strong technical judgment to balance immediate needs with long-term scalability and developer experience. The role also includes safely integrating and operating AI/ML-enabled solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve scalable machine learning platform capabilities, including system design, API design, and data modeling.
- Deliver high-quality software using sound engineering practices and translate complex platform requirements into maintainable implementations.
- Improve platform reliability, performance, and operational health by resolving technical issues and driving resilient solutions.
- Partner with engineers and stakeholders to define technical approaches and influence platform direction.
- Apply strong technical judgment to platform components, balancing near-term delivery with long-term scalability and developer experience.
- Safely integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions that improve outcomes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex services or multi-service components, with accountability for design, delivery, and operational excellence.
- Strong proficiency in software engineering fundamentals, including system design, low-level design, coding, testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
- Experience working with machine learning platforms, data-intensive systems, or infrastructure supporting model development, deployment, or lifecycle management.
- Experience designing and scaling ML platform capabilities.
- Ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows.
- Strength in architecture leadership, making pragmatic design decisions, and driving technical standards.
- Track record of improving reliability, observability, and efficiency for production systems.
- Experience working with AI/ML-enabled products or platforms.
- Exposure to AI/ML workflows such as model training, inference, feature pipelines, or evaluation frameworks.
