Expedia Group is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the GenAI Platform team. This team builds and operates Expedia Group’s shared generative AI platform, including tooling, services, and guardrails, to enable product and ML teams to safely experiment with, deploy, and scale GenAI-powered experiences. You will lead the design, delivery, and evolution of scalable GenAI services and multi-agent infrastructure, shaping platform architecture, codifying best practices, and partnering with product and domain engineering teams to accelerate the development and safe operation of AI-enabled experiences for travelers and partners globally.
Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end system design, including low-level design, API contracts, and data modeling, aligned with architectural standards and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate across geographically distributed teams, bringing clarity to technical decisions, ownership, and dependencies.
- Partner with use-case teams to understand their requirements and support adoption of platform capabilities.
- Own delivery from design through implementation, release, and production operations, ensuring high engineering quality through testing, security, observability, and operational readiness.
- Define and track metrics for reliability, performance, adoption, and operating cost.
- Build reusable, extensible, and self-service capabilities with a platform mindset.
- Balance consistent interfaces and sensible defaults with flexibility for workload-specific needs.
- Partner with the AI Registry team to define and implement grading standards for AI assets, including AI agents, MCP servers, and skills.
- Work closely with the LLM Inference team to design and deliver intelligent routing patterns, open-weight model deployments, and fine-tuning pipelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience, including building and operating backend services and APIs with end-to-end ownership.
- Proven proficiency in Python and experience developing production-grade web services using FastAPI or similar modern frameworks.
- Solid understanding of system design, API design, and data modeling.
- Experience building and running backend APIs in public or hybrid cloud environments, with hands-on exposure to core cloud services (AWS preferred) and at least one data store technology.
- Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products, including exposure to LLM-powered capabilities, embeddings, or RAG patterns.
- Demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly using internal GenAI Platform tools and documentation.
