Expedia Group is seeking a Senior Manager, Machine Learning Science to lead the Content AI charter, focusing on content generation, moderation, quality, and relevance. This role involves managing and developing a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers, setting team goals, and guiding the development of end-to-end machine learning solutions across various content modalities including text, video, and image. The objective is to create scalable, accurate, and grounded AI capabilities that enhance traveler and partner value, while fostering an inclusive and supportive team environment.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong engineering mindset to machine learning work, promoting maintainable, modular, and scalable solutions. This position requires effective stakeholder management, clear communication of technical concepts, and a focus on iterative execution and measurable outcomes to optimize delivery and drive innovation in the travel technology space.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of data scientists and machine learning engineers.
- Set team goals, technical priorities, and operating rhythms aligned with organizational strategy.
- Lead delivery across content generation, moderation, quality, and relevance.
- Guide the development and adoption of end-to-end machine learning solutions for textual, video, and image content.
- Develop accurate, relevant, and grounded content AI capabilities.
- Manage stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners.
- Optimize delivery through iterative execution and clear decision-making.
- Promote maintainable, modular, scalable, and production-aware machine learning solutions.
- Communicate technical concepts and progress to varied audiences.
- Build team practices for feedback, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
Requirements
- 4-5+ years of people leadership experience managing AI/ML teams.
- Master's degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience.
- Significant experience in machine learning science, including supervised/unsupervised learning, model evaluation, and experimentation.
- Experience delivering end-to-end machine learning solutions from problem definition to production integration.
- Experience managing and developing data scientists or machine learning engineers.
- Proficiency in Python, Scala, Java, or another major ML language, plus SQL.
- Demonstrated stakeholder management, prioritization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- An engineering mindset with knowledge of software design principles.
- Familiarity with large language models and willingness to learn across content areas.
- Experience translating business objectives into practical, cost-aware technical approaches.
