Datadog AI Research (DAIR) is seeking a Research Manager to lead a team focused on fundamental research in foundation models and world models. This role involves advancing large-scale pre-training and multimodal learning using diverse signals from distributed systems. The manager will provide technical leadership, mentor researchers and engineers, shape research direction, and collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate research into products. This position is ideal for an experienced researcher or technical leader who wants to maintain hands-on research involvement while leading a high-performing team.
Responsibilities
- Lead research in foundation models, world models, and multimodal learning, setting technical direction.
- Guide and mentor researchers and research engineers, staying involved in research strategy and problem-solving.
- Train large-scale multimodal models on diverse telemetry data.
- Advance approaches to pre-training, representation learning, world modeling, scaling, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with Research, Product, and Engineering teams to translate research into capabilities.
- Contribute to research publications and present at top-tier conferences.
- Help open-source key model artifacts and benchmarks.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Deep expertise in foundation models, world models, multimodal learning, or generative modeling.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technically ambitious research at scale.
- Extensive hands-on experience designing, training, or evaluating large-scale deep learning models.
- Experience with multimodal or non-text data is a strong plus.
- Track record of research impact through publications, model contributions, or research artifacts.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing teams of researchers or engineers.
- Ability to communicate complex research findings effectively.
