We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our AI Enablement team. In this role, you will embed with various business teams across Crunchyroll to understand their workflows, identify opportunities for AI and automation, and build practical AI-powered solutions. You will take problems from initial ambiguity through prototyping, production, and adoption, focusing on delivering measurable improvements in speed, quality, cost, or employee experience. This position requires a blend of strong business acumen, consultative problem-solving, and hands-on engineering to create reliable and scalable AI systems, including agents and workflow automation, that integrate with existing tools and data.
Responsibilities
- Embed with business teams to understand their workflows and pain points.
- Identify opportunities where AI or automation can create meaningful business value.
- Determine the appropriate technical approach for each problem, including agents, generative AI, RAG, classical ML, or deterministic automation.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical plans, including architecture, data flows, and integration points.
- Prototype AI solutions quickly to validate ideas before extensive development.
- Design and build reliable AI systems end-to-end, incorporating tool use, orchestration, prompt engineering, state management, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Engineer AI systems for real-world reliability, addressing failure modes, hallucinations, retries, and security constraints.
- Build evaluations and observability from the start to measure performance and impact.
- Define and measure expected business outcomes for AI solutions.
- Collaborate with business and technical leaders to align stakeholders and manage expectations.
- Iterate on solutions based on user feedback and usage after launch.
- Build reusable components, patterns, and tools to accelerate future AI solution development.
- Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and maintainable in partnership with other engineering teams.
Requirements
- 6+ years of software engineering experience.
- Significant recent experience building and shipping applied AI or LLM-powered systems in production.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and deploying AI systems that interact with APIs, enterprise systems, or external tools for multi-step tasks.
- Strong Python skills and deep experience with modern LLM application development, including tool calling, orchestration, prompt engineering, RAG, model APIs, state management, and enterprise integrations.
- Experience taking AI solutions end-to-end, from problem statement to deployment and iteration.
- Experience engineering AI systems for reliability, including failure handling, human-in-the-loop controls, and monitoring.
- Strong technical judgment on selecting appropriate AI approaches and avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- Proven ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Strong product and business judgment to distinguish valuable problems from interesting technical challenges.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous environments.
