About the job

This is an applied AI engineering role focused on building customer-facing AI solutions. You will work directly with customers to understand their recurring problems and develop agentic systems to automate those tasks. This involves debugging and shipping solutions when direct engineering is required, and transforming repeated issues into robust workflows, evaluations, tools, or product capabilities. The role offers a unique opportunity to work at the frontier of applied AI, designing systems that gather context, reason across different platforms, utilize tools, take bounded actions, verify outcomes, and communicate effectively. You will also be responsible for defining the necessary state, permissions, guardrails, evaluations, and escalation paths to ensure AI systems earn customer trust, and for implementing immediate feedback loops to continuously improve these systems based on real-world support cases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop agentic workflows to automate support functions like intake, classification, context gathering, diagnosis, response drafting, remediation, verification, and follow-up.
  • Build tool-using agents capable of inspecting system states (runs, logs, auth, configuration) and executing bounded recovery actions.
  • Create evaluation suites to assess diagnostic accuracy, resolution quality, safe escalation, customer communication, and task completion.
  • Design human-in-the-loop systems that clearly define ownership, uncertainty, approvals, handoffs, and failure states.
  • Implement observability, memory, and feedback mechanisms for agents to learn from support cases and avoid repeating errors.
  • Drive product improvements that eliminate entire categories of customer issues rather than just addressing symptoms faster.
  • Collaborate with customers, Support, FDE, Product, and Engineering teams to identify automation opportunities.
  • Own and resolve critical customer issues end-to-end, including reproduction, isolation, mitigation, shipping, communication, and verification.
  • Transition rough prototypes into reliable production workflows with comprehensive tracing, evaluations, guardrails, and fallback mechanisms.
  • Utilize advanced AI models, coding agents, and internal tools to enhance engineering productivity.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Experience building production systems with language models, tool calling, retrieval, structured outputs, multi-step workflows, or agent memory.
  • Proficiency in leveraging models and coding agents effectively, understanding their non-determinism and associated risks.
  • Skilled in using evaluations, traces, failure analysis, and rapid iteration to ensure AI system dependability.
  • Experienced backend, platform, or integration engineer with a track record of shipping and operating production software.
  • Ability to debug complex issues across SDKs, HTTP, OAuth, webhooks, queues, data stores, logs, and third-party APIs.
  • Capacity to transform ambiguous failures into minimal reproductions, root causes, and lasting fixes.
  • Desire to work closely with customers to create a tight feedback loop between development and impact.
  • Enjoyment of direct interaction with technical users, problem definition, and system development.
  • Clear communication skills, especially under uncertainty, with the ability to ask precise questions and avoid bluffing.
  • Ability to model support functions as states, tools, permissions, handoffs, verification steps, and escalation rules.
  • Judgment on what should be automated versus what should remain human-controlled, and how to increase autonomy safely.
  • Focus on fixing the root cause of problems, not just the immediate symptoms.
