As a Staff Data Engineer at Capital One, you will be a leading technical expert contributing to the future of data platforms and banking in the cloud. You will collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, machine learning experts, and product managers to devise scalable and reusable data solutions for complex problems. Your role involves driving innovation, optimizing business outcomes, and delivering strong data and technology solutions. You will promote engineering excellence, mentor junior engineers, and actively recruit talent to build our community. You will operate as a trusted advisor, sharing knowledge through communications, code samples, and blog posts, specializing in a particular subject area while impacting the organization broadly.
Responsibilities
- Architect the long-term enterprise roadmap for distributed AI telemetry, streaming data engineering, and automated developer insight frameworks.
- Lead the technical evolution of the internal developer telemetry platform to handle billions of high-fidelity events globally.
- Spearhead the deployment of advanced inference capabilities, including LLM-as-a-Judge models, for autonomous scoring of code complexity and AI use cases.
- Own the end-to-end data strategy, transitioning to real-time event-driven architectures with a scalable Medallion data structure.
- Partner with analytics teams to link AI code density data and telemetry directly with core business outcomes.
- Design and enforce privacy-by-design principles, implementing automated PII masking and token management.
- Lead through direct technical contribution, prototyping systems, evaluating build vs. buy paths, authoring code patterns, and mentoring engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- At least 7 years of experience in data engineering.
- At least 3 years of experience in data architecture.
- At least 2 years of experience building applications in AWS.
- At least 5 years of experience programming with Python, Java, or Scala.
- At least 5 years of experience designing and developing data pipelines.
- At least 3 years of experience in data modeling and designing end-to-end data solutions using relational and non-relational databases.
