About the job
Black Forest Labs is building the foundational layer for visual intelligence, developing multimodal models trained on images, video, audio, and action. Our team pioneered latent diffusion and Stable Diffusion, making generative AI accessible. We are now pushing into generative media at scale and machines that act in the physical world. This role leads Product Research, bridging researchers and the market. You will analyze signals from evaluations, leaderboards, customers, and usage data to identify areas for model improvement and define the strategy for achieving them. You will work closely with Research, Backend, Product, and Go-to-Market teams.
Responsibilities
- Own the product-facing evaluation taxonomy, strategy, and execution.
- Maintain a prioritized list of model improvements based on various data sources to guide research cycles.
- Set priorities for Applied Researchers focused on fine-tuning and RL for core model improvement and variant development.
- Define data requirements for model measurement and improvement.
- Co-lead new model releases, owning the quality go/no-go decisions and capability claims.
Requirements
- Product or research experience directly on generative models, shaping the model itself.
- Strong technical depth to critically assess evaluation designs and understand fine-tuning and RL.
- Excellent judgment for making trade-offs with incomplete information and owning prioritization.
- Comfort in ambiguous, fast-changing research environments.
- Experience defining model improvement goals and driving research action.
- Experience turning model weaknesses into ranked priorities.
- Experience owning model release evaluations, including ship decisions or capability claims.
- Experience scoping and shipping fine-tuned models or variants.
- Experience diagnosing quality regressions or plateaus and identifying root causes.
Benefits
- Base salary: 172K-220K
- Equity
- Hybrid work arrangement (at least 2 days/week in office, or one full week every other week)
