About the job

Artefact is a next-generation strategy and data consulting firm that transforms organizations through data and AI. Combining top-tier strategy consulting with deep expertise in data, digital, and analytics, we help clients achieve tangible business impact. With a global presence, our Romandie office in Lausanne/Geneva advises clients on pressing strategic challenges, from AI strategy and governance to digital transformation roadmaps.

As a Senior Technical Consultant / Senior AI Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of impactful AI and data solutions. This role involves a blend of hands-on engineering and client advisory, guiding multi-disciplinary teams from initial concept to production deployment. You will own solution architecture, lead complex proof-of-concepts, perform advanced programming and modeling, and manage cloud and MLOps/LLMOps aspects.

Responsibilities

  • Define end-to-end architectures (data, ML/LLM, APIs, security) and drive projects from PoC to production with reliability, observability, and cost in mind.
  • Scope, prototype, and validate AI/ML use cases (including LLMs/GenAI, RAG, fine-tuning, evaluation) and convert successful pilots into scalable products.
  • Build, adapt, and evaluate ML/DL/LLM models using Python (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, LangChain/LlamaIndex), including prompt engineering, fine-tuning/LoRA, vector search, and safety/guardrails.
  • Design and operate solutions on Azure, GCP, or AWS, covering CI/CD, containers, model serving, feature stores, vector DBs, monitoring, and evaluation pipelines.
  • Translate business goals into technical roadmaps, present to senior stakeholders, manage risks and trade-offs, and ensure measurable business impact.
  • Enforce best practices on data privacy, model risk management, responsible AI, and documentation.
  • Coach engineers/consultants, perform code and design reviews, and help shape delivery standards and reusable accelerators.
  • Support proposals, estimates, and statements of work; contribute to assets, talks, and publications.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years in data/ML/AI engineering or adjacent roles, with end-to-end delivery of production AI systems.
  • Expert Python programming skills and solid software engineering practices (testing, packaging, CI/CD).
  • Proficiency in SQL; Java/Scala/TypeScript are a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with ML/DL and LLMs (prompting, fine-tuning/LoRA, embeddings/RAG, evaluation & observability, guardrails).
  • Deep experience deploying secure, scalable services on at least one major cloud platform (Azure, GCP, or AWS).
  • Experience with MLOps/LLMOps tools and practices, including containers (Docker/Kubernetes), Git, pipelines, model serving, experiment tracking, model registry, and vector databases (FAISS, Pinecone, pgvector, OpenSearch).
  • Experience designing data/ML platforms, APIs, and microservices; familiarity with data pipelines and streaming is valued.
  • Strong consulting skills: requirements gathering, storytelling, senior stakeholder management, and clear documentation.
  • Fluency in French and English (written & spoken) is mandatory.
  • Eligibility to work in Switzerland.

Benefits

  • Advanced training across strategy, AI/ML/LLM, and cloud.
  • International missions and communities of practice.
  • Opportunities for contributions to open-source, publications, or conference talks (nice to have).
