About the job
Anthropic is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to join the Beneficial Deployments, Life Sciences team in London. This role focuses on integrating Claude into scientific discovery processes, specifically by automating scientific hardware and software in research labs. You will be instrumental in deploying the Model Hardware Standard (MHS) to leading research institutions, scaling learnings through reusable assets, and influencing future product and research directions. The position involves close collaboration with labs to automate experiments end-to-end, from advising and prototyping to writing production code, and requires significant travel.
Responsibilities
- Automate lab experiments end-to-end with Claude, from advising to prototyping and production code.
- Drive product, engineering, and research direction based on field experience, including developing evals for model limitations and enhancing MHS.
- Scale impact across labs by creating reusable cookbooks and documentation.
- Serve as an EMEA ambassador for Claude in the lab, building trust and inspiring scientific audiences.
- Travel significantly for the role.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience connecting software to lab robots and instruments (e.g., liquid handlers, plate readers, LIMS), preferably in an automated lab.
- Strong engineering skills to take LLM-powered tools from prototype to production code and write performance evaluation metrics.
- Scientific understanding of experiments to identify automation opportunities and potential AI failures or safety concerns in physical environments.
- Experience working directly with external customers or partners in a technical capacity.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for creating usable documentation and delivering engaging presentations.
- A scrappy mentality, comfortable with ambiguity, building from scratch, and wearing multiple hats.
Benefits
- Annual Salary: £225,000—£255,000 GBP
- Visa sponsorship available
- Hybrid work policy (at least 25% in office)
