Algolia is seeking an Engineering Director for AI Search to lead multiple teams or a critical product area within the Engineering team. This role involves translating company strategy into execution, building strong, autonomous teams, and fostering engineering excellence. You will partner closely with Product, Design, and cross-functional stakeholders to shape roadmaps and ensure successful delivery of customer value. The position requires strong AI leadership, driving engineering best practices, and contributing to the senior technology leadership team's strategic guidance.
Responsibilities
- Lead a group of engineering teams, ensuring alignment with product and company priorities.
- Demonstrate strong AI leadership by fostering continuous improvement and applying emerging AI technologies.
- Own delivery, execution, and operational excellence for a defined product or platform area.
- Partner with Product, Design, and stakeholders to shape roadmaps and ensure customer value delivery.
- Drive engineering best practices in system design, scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Contribute to senior technology leadership, focusing on engineering excellence and organizational effectiveness.
- Support and coach Engineering Managers to grow as leaders and build high-performing teams.
- Contribute to organizational planning, including headcount, team structure, and planning cycles.
- Ensure a strong culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement within the organization.
- Act as a bridge between strategy and execution, translating high-level goals into team-level priorities.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CTO and SVP Engineering on leadership and organizational effectiveness.
Requirements
- 8-12+ years of engineering experience, including 3-5+ years managing multiple teams or managing through managers.
- Proven experience delivering complex, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Strong technical background with experience in distributed systems, APIs, and scalable infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through others, empowering managers and senior engineers.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and drive clarity.
- Experience operating in distributed or global engineering environments.
- Familiarity with product-led growth (PLG) environments (nice to have).
- Exposure to AI/ML-powered products or platforms (nice to have).
