Baseten is seeking an AI Engineer to join its hyper-growth Compute organization. This role is crucial for scaling the systems and workflows that balance supply and demand across Baseten's GPU fleet. You will design, build, and deploy AI-powered workflows to automate repetitive and error-prone tasks within capacity management, enabling the team to focus on critical judgment calls. The ideal candidate will audit existing systems, identify gaps, and rapidly ship solutions, understanding when to leverage existing tools versus building custom AI-powered applications. This position requires a systems-thinking approach to ensure new workflows integrate seamlessly with broader capacity systems architecture.
Responsibilities
- Ship AI-powered workflows for Compute and C3 teams, building agents and automations to offload manual work like data pipeline cleanup and capacity investigation.
- Develop dashboards, alerts, and recommendations based on fleet utilization, allocation, and demand-forecasting data.
- Audit the existing technology stack, identify gaps and missing components, and prioritize development without waiting for a roadmap.
- Triage and build low-hanging fruit solutions for Supply, Demand, and C3 teams quickly.
- Build bespoke AI-powered solutions using Claude Code when custom development is more appropriate than off-the-shelf tools.
- Design workflows with an understanding of upstream and downstream implications across different teams to avoid technical debt.
- Integrate third-party APIs and internal systems to ensure reliable data flow between C3, CRM, and Compute systems.
- Document all built solutions to ensure they are discoverable, understandable, and trustworthy.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in AI/automation engineering, workflow automation, or a technical operations role, preferably at a high-growth, AI-native infrastructure or B2B company.
- Experience shipping production agents on Vercel, including building custom internal apps and agents with durable workflows.
- Fluency with AI coding assistants and agent tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
- Direct experience with a CRM or system-of-record platform like Salesforce.
- A proven track record of owning end-to-end AI and automation workflows.
- Proficiency with integration and automation platforms like n8n, Zapier, Make, or Workato, and a strong understanding of APIs and webhooks.
- Experience in high-growth technology companies, particularly in infrastructure, cloud, or operations-heavy environments.
